If Nothing goes Right, go Left !!!

This is a story I wrote in half hour's time for a contest in my department event Acumen and surprisingly I ended up getting the first prize :) Here it goes...

The air was so thin and chill. He could actually kiss the clouds, so was the altitude of the place where he was standing. Kevin had decided to end his life for there was no reason for him to live anymore. On step forward and all his miseries will come to end. Who is Kevin?, Why is he in such a position in his life?

"I think we should stop seeing each other, I don't think I love you anymore" said Mary who was supposed to the perfect match according to Kevin and there she was, literally ripping the heart out of him. He was standing in the middle of the road with her ring. For a cop who has faced many setbacks and have seen many a failures, this was new and hurting him really bad.

"Tell my son, I love him" were the last words of an innocent mother who Kevin had shot in an encounter, which went terribly wrong in an attempt a capture a gang member that threatened the governing body. The target went away, but the blood in Kevin's hands were stubborn to leave. For Kevin has sinned and this time, it proved fatal.

Two days later, after getting relieved from his duty and when he reached home, he was shocked to see that he was robbed. He went in and a saw of a piece of paper lying on the floor that read "Thanks chief !!! I owe you one". His past had come to haunt him again. He wanted to bring the guy who has made his life a living hell down very badly.

A week passed by. Even the feather on his palms seemed heavy, he had lost the will to live and the thing he had feared just happened, he got a letter from the force that he has been suspended indefinitely from the department. 

So he was there, just all alone in the cliff. Just when he thought of the right moment to make the jump. Something came crashing down the sky and it was a eagle. It was hurt very badly and its survival had to take a lot of heart from the heart. He stood there perplexed by the coincidence in the incident. Give the eagle a pair of pants and leather jacket, it was Kevin!!!

There was a small mouse nearby and the eagle played dead so it let the mouse come near and ate it the instant it was very near. Kevin was impressed. He wanted to see if there was another way to put the things the way it belonged. He wanted to give life, one last shot. He went back, borrowed a pistol from a friend at work.

"On your knees you son of a gun, think about moving and I swear to god, i will put these bullets in your forehead before you know it" shouted Kevin. He had humbled the dragon and to his credit, he got a lead to the entire gang. He was back to the force and he was up and going.

His career went back to the track but there was something aching his heart. He wanted to see Mary one last time, who was engaged to a billionaire. He was walking down the road and her house was the second one in the following right. He was almost there when all of a sudden, he turned towards left and continued walking. He couldn't understand why he was doing so.

After about 20 steps into the destinationless stroll, he saw a young lady. Her T-shirt read "If Nothing goes Right, go Left". It was an irony for him. He looked up and saw her flashing a smile at him. He said "huh"...
