Stitches is bigger than the Ashes

"Ok machan...Sure da...I ll get on it" and I ended the call with Ganesh. It was a lazy sunday afternoon and I was supposed to get started with my project. I texted Fazil about the whole thing that was decided with Ganesh. Surya was sitting in his room watching the painful last moments of Uthamaputhiran. Surya and I, apart from the fun moments as being the room mates, apart from the late night talks, had nothing monumental done, so it can be remembered by both of us in the future, as our own special room mate event.

That streak ended today when we came with the ultimate game that redefines the concept of cricket. With the aim of giving Ashes, a run for its money, I co created "Stitches" with Suriya.
the creators with the "stitch"

the official rule post of  stitches

.) It involves room mates who have interest and knowledge about cricket.

.) The ball is paper stuffed cello tape.

.) Stumps are the basket where the old clothes are supposed to go.

.) Bat should be a binded note book which must the friend's of any one of the room mates.

.) Its basically a three over game and the whole game is played knelt down.

.) It hurts like hell when you play like that so better get a pillow for the knees.

.) The room must be filled with music, I mean slam bam music, to up the tempo.

.) Music should not involve the romantic genre, as it might create diversion ;)

.) This game must be played only under proper supervision, any attempts to copy what Surya and I do are not encouraged. We are trained professionals. :P

.) Do not try any other type of balls, even for experimenting, if used, then note kilinjirum. :)

.) Do not text when you are batting, you might getting hurt by the bowler.

.) The main thing is not to tease the bowler with the girl he does not like during the game, the ball is insanely hard.

the whole game is under construction, so these are the initial rules

The Firsts :

.) Surya won the first ever toss

.) He hit the first ever four

.) I won the first ever match and hit the first ever six

.) Surya got the first catch

.) I bowled him over for the first time

inspirations : Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani's creation - Fireball

Superhumans do exist !!

This may be one of the most boring posts ever from me as it does not involve sports, women or a movie. Everyday when I wake up, I used to think how the world would be if I were a mutant like Wollverine or a superhero like the lightning or anyone for that matter. Later, I come down to reality and face the fact that such things are just the imaginations and there is no such thing as the "super"humans.

I, like many millions around the globe have been gifted with a pair of arms and legs and I am fortunate to have no shortcomings on my body parts. Even then the world and life seems so tough, every defeat pushes me down like hell and every time I go down, I start searching for comfort some where and one such instant, when I was standing in a very busy road trying to cross the road, a couple crossed by me. They were blind. That did not stop them from being just inside the house. The traffic was at the worst and there they were, trying to sneak through it with a stick.

This post does promote any campaign or is not for any cause but to make the point clear that these people who are termed as the "physically challenged" is not fair. It is just an under statement, as they face challenges at almost everything and the correct term to address them would be "superhumans" as their survival in this world alone proves that, they are winners.

Anything more than that, the laurels they bag, the record they break, the paralympics greats are just too good to term in a single word or a phrase. Life is too darn hard for them and all they do is that, they give the finger to life and move on. When everyone has to start from point 0 in their life, they start from point -50 and yet they go ahead with zeal and determination.

If you are searching for inspiration to go up, do big and make a mark. Instead of attending personality camps or conferences or any speeches, spend a day at an ashram or a blind school and suddenly the world seems a better place to you and there is hope. There is always hope.

Every single case study about the challenged, every single instant that we come across and every single person that makes it big all lead to a single undeniable fact. They are down on health, down on morale, down on every damn thing they want. Instead of giving it in, they fight, they fight hard, they fight so f**king hard even life becomes kind to them.

Bottomline : The more challenged they are, the better they get.

They, indeed are the super humans

And the Supernovan Award goes to....

The final batch day was celebrated on 18th august and the core of the function is in Fazil's blog. So let me go straight to the main event, the award function and I must say, I was very much honoured to be asked to host the show and the comments were, I did put a decent performance. This was the best batch day and we had thorough fun. So the categories and winners are as follows.

The following awards were voted by the entire class

mr sincere - mr ram babu

There was no second thoughts in this category, as Rambabu single handedly is responsible for the notes of almost all the guys and also for the marks in the exams sometimes. It must be said that Sivakumar gave him a fair fight for the prize.

ms sincere - miss vidhya lakshmi

This,on the other hand was a tough choice with girls like Shobana, Virasundarii not very behind, but it was Vidhyalakshmi's day and she walked away with the award, fair and square.

mr co ordinator - mr sabarish

There were few names which had the competition, but he got through and throughly deserved the award.

miss co ordinator - miss vira sundarii

She comes first, she comes good and she does well and so she walks away with this award without a doubt.

mr entertainer - mr r. sriram

This was more like an award for a comedy piece and who make people laugh. This went rightly to Sriram for his endless busting in class.

miss entertainer - miss r.pooja

Seveeeeeenty, she said attendance for the first time in our class and it was instantaneous that she got registered as number one comedy piece in every one's mind. From teachers to students to freshers, there is none who tried and succeeded in immitating Pooja.

cerelac boy - mr vignesh

The winner was chubby and deserved it. (the girls' part was eliminated for some reasons)

back bench boy - mr paul durai/ mr sabari kumar

The so called "rebels" were kind enough to come for the function and get this.

back bench girl - miss k.niveditha

Well, she is sitting in the last bench and deserves this most among all the last bench girls, so we did not have much of a choice.

best budies - miss rajapriya and miss niveditha

When everyone is singing "Mustafa mustafa" and running on the beach, they will use the same theme for their endless journey to canteen. They can never be spotted alone and so they ended up with it.

mr aarva kolaru - mr vinoth arun

Well, this was inevitable. He talks more than the teacher in the class and is actually proud of it. This is enough for this category.

miss aarva kolaru - miss virasundarii

Female version of Vinoth Arun.

Note : Mr and Miss Aarva Kolaru are batch mates...and guess who is the third one?

its our own Vinoth Babu.... let his soul Rest In Peace !!!

sinthanayalar - mr vinoth babu

"Dream inside a dream" - Christopher Nolan's concept on Inception. "Dream inside the Class" - Vinoth Babu's concept.

mr busted - mr senthilvel

Gives a good company to Sriram and its appropriate.

koduthu vacha batch - miss shobana theepa, mr sikkandar fazil and mr shriram narayan

Probably, the lab batch mates who have seen a lot of drama among them and still sticking together.

mr supernovan - mr sikkandar fazil

The Big One , the God, The Immortal and the Best. No one will ever use this words for him, but he is the best at what he does and so gets this with thumping victory.

miss supernovan - miss virasundarii

An headache in class, Only enthusiast of a certain tamil speaking teacher's class and a victim of friends back stabbing ending up loosing the mobile phone in class. But these aside, talent wise she is second to none.

The following awards were voted by girls

miss proxy -  miss rajapriya

She is the reason why the next category was suggested.

miss bunker - miss sri nivedita

I love classes as long as I am out of it

mr scene party - mr sabarish

The biggest shock of them all. When everyone was thinking it was going to be Vinoth Arun, came out Sabarish's name and hence emerged - "Scene Sabrish".

mr silent - mr rj rajkumar

Arguably, the least talkative and rightly the award.

miss sleeping beauty - miss seethalakshmi

Sits in the first bench and yawns so big, you can see bats flying off.

The following were voted by Boys

mr proxy - mr ramji

The legend, the indisputable and the king. Although faced a stiff challenge from Suresh, Raj DM and Nivas who are not far behind on their calibre on this category,

miss scene party - miss shantini

No second guesses, why should there be any?

miss silent - miss vimala

The most innocent and most deserving.

mr bunker - mr vimal

Even Vijay's hit films are more often than his visits to the class.

mr sleeping beauty - mr shankar kumar

Was trapped many times, dozing off and was honoured for it.

Jack Bauer for the Rescue

24, an action drama which follows events of one bad day and every episode covers one hour with events unfolding in real time. Unlike other soap operas where the cream of the show is shared by atleast 6-7 characters, here the spotlight is around one guy, who is the hero/producer of the show, Jack Bauer(Keifer Sutherland) with other supporting characters eventually dying off.

Initially, the frequent change in personnel was not good, I felt but it ended up refreshing and I stand corrected. The plot is simple, America has one bad day and Jack saves the day but he doesn't have time to follow the rules each and every time, so goes on breaking some but as he produces results, he is being spared and also hailed as a national hero.

The hero is a part of Counter Terrorist Unit which takes care of the security of high end officials including the President, and he heads up the Field Ops. The technology these guys use are state of the art and is intriguing. The organisation has many heads over the entire series and my favourites are Bill Buchanan and George Mason.

In the rest of the supporting cast, Chloe O' Brian is the most important character after the hero himself, the others are Tony Almeida, Michelle Dessler, David Palmer, Renee Walker, Nina Myers, Cole Ortiz and Audrey Raines. They do their parts so very good and render, the lead man solid support.

Although carrying an entire series based on a single agent is kind of a risk, Jack sees that the risk part is handled with care as the show is so neatly planned and executed, it wins in keeping us glued to the seats and trying to find out what happens in the next episode.

The show has its own bunch of pretty woman but as I mentioned earlier, they don't last the entire series. Kim Bauer played by Elisha Cuthbert, The Girl Next Door fame does a neat job.

Jack stands out an excellent action hero, may be best in the small screens and wins people heart big time. He has also won the "Star who will be missed the most" award recently. In the show he fights almost anything from a Presidential assassination plot to viruses to bomb threats.

To sum all up, 24 is a great show and it is a pity that it had ended and the way it ended was very sentimental while many thought it would be action packed. Jack's face in the big screens of CTU before he signs off for the last time is pretty moving. I would give it 8.7 and try catching it.

Long and Strong

I spent my first year in the hostel and like all the hostellers, I have my stack of fond memories and my room mate Bharath Bhat is an integral part of it. I still remember him sitting in the cot with his dad for the first time. We had no problem as our interests were mainly coincidental.

Without a second thought, our room could be rated as the dirtiest in the hostel, yet we had fun. We spent the late nights discussing movies and nothing but movies. I would never stay back in the weekends and so the time we had together was very little. We spent most of the weekday evenings with both of us deeply occupied in the songs of our respective walkmans.

3 days back, we had a considerable time together after almost two years and we did not waste a second without discussing the movies again. It was really good and fun to catch with him. We never studied together and didn't care about others' mark and I guess it was one of the factors for a good time that we had.

Also, on the first year, our final years would drag us out to work for the next day function (if there is any), setting up the decorations. He was vital in helping me escape as I would roll on the other side and become invisible. The seniors, finding no one but him from the door will miss and the night will be spared.

His snacks from mysore were great and I would be hoping for him to return with packs whenever he return from the holidays. He was rather shocked at the first to know that I am moving out, but came around the situation eventually and has made many friends since then.

A tough life gets tougher

Ok, so I am officially a final year student and with the posts getting filled and friends and friends of friends taking up the herculean tasks of taking a post and surviving in the same for an entire year, and their reactions of what they have to go through to make 5 % of what they have planned for any event come true, made me think of the basic qualities one must possess so he/she can take a post, hold on to it and actually do not get a rise in level of blood pressure at the end of the course.

The first thing is that, you have to take your spine off and hang it back home when you go to college. When you do not do so, you tend to contradict your superior and before you know it, you will be on the streets.

You will have to avoid the iodine contact of the food you take in, so you not find yourself shouting at the poor fellow standing in the mirror "yenda sothula uppu pottu thana sapadra, antha aal solrathukellam thalayaatra" ?

Any ideas you have to take the event, a step forward must be locked into a case and the key must be given to actor Vijay with a deal that, he must return you the key the instant he gives an hit.

Unless you are a billionaire, you shouldn't even think of roping in a professional, to deliver a speech or organising a workshop for that matter.

Have yourself understand the fact that, once you get into the post, there will only be three other professionals who will be working as hard as you, the american marine, the hindi film industry trying to bring an expression out of John Abraham and the TCE'11 batch trying to find a "genuine" figure before their term expires.

You will feel that you are economically crippled when you hear people say the first prize for any event in the department is 30 bucks and trust me, you can do nothing about it.

You will be pushed to the reality, where there is no colour in the world other than blue and white, try to sneak in even a dot of other colour and your poster finds itself in bin before you could explain anything.

When every Indian was fighting for the Independence, one man was fighting for his love

Studying in a class where, LOVE stands for Logical Operations for Verilog Entities, SEX stands for Simulation in the Experiment and guys look for a FIGURE only in books, I was asked a rather, out of the place question by my class mates. "machi afternoon cut adichitu padathuku polaama?" and my first answer was hell yes!! So two hours later, me and 5 studious classmates were standing in the "multiplex" with the tickets for the new sensation, MADARASAPATTINAM.

With Nolan's Inception, Toy Story 3, trisha's Khatta Metha and many movies released and going well, one would never place his money on this flick to be a hit. But this movie turns out to be a must watch. Arya's fit physique, Amy Jackson's debut yet beautiful acting and GV Prakash's mastery over the ripped music make the movie a success.

If u guess a movie shot in chennai without a song in the Spencers, a chase sequence in Mount road and a romance in any cozy restaurant will be a big failure, u are wrong. This period movie comes good with no places I have mentioned and with Amy Jackson in the screen, I don't think the director needs an additional attribute to make the place beautiful ;)

Its been a long time since a decent, enjoyable and a touching love tale had come out and this fills the void perfectly. It comes in the same league as PS I LOVE YOU and THE NOTEBOOK. Although the manner in which the story was taken reminds you of TITANIC, it has been crafted to perfection to suit our taste. The lead up to the hit melody Pookal Pookum seems rapid and sudden, yet very romantic as acknowledged by my room mate.

The music seems to carry the movie for most of its part and the entire cast has done justice to their roles. The director has stuck to the basics and keeping in mind the necessary ingredients to make a winning combination, Vijay has used the "Thaali sentiment" to an extent which is very moving and the heroine's cry in the climax. claiming it to be her's, makes you shed tears.

The scene where Amy hits Aarya in the hand to make him let go of the boat for his own safety and when the whole police force in that part of the country is after the couple, it makes you wanna go and help them out or to see a Wolverine jump out from some where for their aid.

For those who have a small bladder, please make use of the first song, otherwise you ll have to sit through hell during the dying moments of the first half which seems dragging like hell.

The English cast does a neat job. Amy Jackson, a young model from London wins millions of hearts. I personally feel that the chick who played Premji's love interest in Goa was better at reactions, but Amy is prettier.

The Struggle of Independence scenes give a perfect set up and background for the cat and mouse game between the cops and the couple. It was new and refreshing.

This movie is definitely worth a watch. Definitely a 9.2 on a scale of 10.
